Dance Shoes

The actors are already doing some serious dancing and it is imperative for their safety that all actors have appropriate shoes by February 9th. It was suggested at the parent meeting that you may want to size your child at a store but that you can find better prices on the web at www.discountdance.com.

Junior Mode Shoes and Dance will give a 10% discount if you mention CYAG.

Dance Clothes

All female actors are required to have fleshtone leotards and tights. All male actors are required to have a ribbed t-shirt and appropriate pants.

www.discountdance.com is a good source for these items.

These clothing items are mandatory for the dress rehearsals and performances, due to the amount of quick changes. This will make the kids more comfortable and a lot easier for them to change their costumes. Don't wait until the last minute to purchase these; get them soon!

What's a Parent to do?

Parents of kids who are not from Cheverly asked for suggestions on places to hang out during the rehearsals. Here are a few ideas; if you have additional suggestions please email Tammie.

Local libraries

College Park is about 15 minutes away. Take the BW Pkway north to 410, turn left off the exit ramp, then take a right on route 1. Along route 1 in college park there are some good places to eat/hang or run errands. Plato's Diner is on your left, then a bit further is a strip mall that has various places to eat, a CVS, and a Starbucks with comfy couches. Another block or two up on your right is a great bagel place, and the University of Maryland bookstore.
The Mall at Prince Georges in Hyattsville is just a bit further along 410. There are many other stores besides the mall: a large grocery store, a home depot, etc. Here is a map.
When the weather is nice, you might enjoy the following:

Bladensburg Waterfront Park.
Cheverly has a beautiful trail along Lower Beaverdam Creek, just a few blocks from the church. From Forest Road, take a right on Parkway. Turn left on Wayne Place. The trailhead is at a small playground.
If you have small siblings in tow, you might want to visit our town playground, called Gast Park, which is one block from the church. From Forest Road, you would take a left on Parkway, and Gast Park is one block ahead.
If you want some exercise, we have a nice running track at our town fields. Continue on Forest for one block past the church. The community center is 6401 Forest Road and the town fields are just down the hill. There is also a playground and there are two tennis courts.
